Stars & Stripes Tri-Fold Card With Belly Band

This project is a lovely display of red, white and blue using our Stars and Stripes collection.  This creation was made by design team member, Kim.

Cut the following materials before assembly.

Materials (all w x h): Card Base Cut 11" x 5 1/2"
White Card Stock 2 1/2" x 5 1/4"
Patterned Paper (I used 4 different patterns):
(1) 4" x 5 1/4"
(1) 2 1/2" x 5 1/4"
(2) 1" x 5 1/4"
Belly Band: 10" x 1 1/2"

Score card base on the 11" edge at 4 1/4". Flip card base over and score (again on the 11" side) at 7". Flip card base over one last time and score at 9 3/4".

By flipping the card base over before scoring, it will give you clean creases for your mountain and valley folds.

Fold your card as shown above. You will be creating an according fold. Make sure to burnish your folds to make them nice and crisp.

This is what your card base will look like folded.

Adhere your white and patterned papers as shown above, starting with the largest piece on the right, followed by the white (this will not show when the card is closed), down to the smallest on the far left, and your last small piece on the outside front panel. (This panel will have patterned paper on both sides.)

This is what your card will look like when closed.

Lay your belly band strip under your card, so that you can wrap it around your card, as shown in the next photo.

You do not want your belly band to be too loose or too tight. You want it to be able to slide easily on and off of your card. Don't score the belly band, as if you look at your card, you will notice that the right side is only one layer, but the left side is 3 layers. I just folded, the belly band over so that it meets evenly over the center of my card. You can trim off excess, if desired.

Apply adhesive to your belly band as shown above. This will prevent getting adhesive where you don't want it but will be plenty of hold.

Decorate belly band as desired. The sky is the limit!

Here is the completed card. Note - I did not decorate or stamp on the white panel to allow for writing.  Now it's ready to give away!

Supplies Used:
